Tilia Design Co. founders Sam and Kate Lindsay were raised in rural Texas where they learned to make fine leather goods for friends and family from John Gioe, one of Austin's foremost Leather Artisans. While traveling the United States, they visited some of the most renowned leather tanneries in the world. The personal dedication they showed to the raw material inspired them to continue the long tradition of the highest quality, bespoke leather goods..

For the Lindsays, creating leather goods is an intimate process. Before deciding on grain or thickness, they think about how a design will be used and where it will be worn. Once they are ready to cut a pattern, they treat the raw material as a second skin. Completely opposed to an industrial approach, Tilia Design Co. allows the leather to reveal its natural beauty.

Whenever Tilia Design Co. considers adding a new product to their line, it first goes through a rigerous trial period of using a prototype in everday situations, and put to the test for durability. Any small details that need refining for ease of use in the piece are also performed prior to release.

International Appeal with a Local Touch.

After years of mastering the art of leathercraft, Tilia Design Co. has found that gently taming and suggesting shape yields the most elegant results. Even when they started small with wallets back in 1999, they always matched their meticulousness with curiosity. Traveling around the globe, the Lindsays have studied various techniques and designs that have helped them cultivate a singular yet international style. Today, they have a few apprentices of their own and spend most of their time crafting with them in their Texas studio.
